America Recycles Day

On November 15, millions of people across the United States took part in America Recycles Day. This day’s purpose is to promote and raise awareness about the benefits of recycling and purchasing recycled products. It was started by the National Recycling Coalition in 1997 and since 2009 has been a part of the Keep America Beautiful program.

When most people think of recycling, they imagine recycling plastic, paper, carboard, etc, but there is so much more that can be done. Kudos to companies like E6PR for creating the first eco-friendly six-pack rings. These rings are made from by-product waste that feed fish and help to save the estimated one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals that ingest or become trapped by plastic each year. Purchasing water filling and filtration systems for home, school or work is also a great way to reduce single use plastics.  Have you ever considered buying clothes second hand to help eliminate toxins from the textile manufacturers that pollute the environment? There are some fantastic upscale, resale and consignment stores including online shops such as The Real Real. Purchasing from consignment stores helps you to live a little “greener” and can fatten up your wallet a bit! Each recycled or repurposed product, helps to save our environment little by little. We cut fewer trees, save water and energy, and reduce carbon emissions.

Help save our environment and start on your recycling endeavor today!

Miss Science

Miss Science® has been providing a hands-on approach to make STEM education fun and relevant. We understand that not every student wants to embark on a traditional STEM career; however, every student (and adult) should understand the importance of STEM in their world. For over a decade we have been breaking down the silos of STEM subjects by incorporating innovation and entrepreneurship, all while serving schools, businesses and non-profit organizations. Whether it is making a positive impact on student learning, facilitating grants that connect companies with schools or creating the footprint for a STEM Festival we are proud to be an organization that makes a difference, “Because Smart is Cool!”
